Find Your Perfect Beach in the Almaguin Highlands

Summer is here, and that means it’s time to enjoy the water. If you’re looking for family-friendly spots to swim, picnic, and spend the day outdoors, we’ve put together a list of beaches throughout the Almaguin Highlands.

Whether you’re staying in Powassan, Novar, or anywhere in between, these are some great places to cool off and enjoy the summer months.

Perry Township

Clear Lake Beach
188 Churchill Gardens Road, Emsdale, ON

A quiet, family-friendly beach with a picnic area, change rooms, and washroom facilities. Across the road, you’ll find a large field for activities and a dog park.

Long Lake Beach
733 Long Lake Road, Novar, ON

A peaceful beach with beautiful views. Parking is limited, and there are no washroom facilities on site, but it’s a lovely spot to enjoy the lake.

Armour Township

Doe Lake Municipal Park
1014 Ferguson Road, Katrine
Located in the rolling hills of the Almaguin Highlands, Doe Lake Municipal Park is a great destination for a full day of summer fun. The park features a sandy beach with shallow water for children, a playground, accessible washrooms, BBQ pits, a paved boat launch, and areas for basketball and volleyball.

Pickerel Lake Park
180 Kent Road, Armour
This public waterfront area offers access to Pickerel Lake through a natural sand and gravel beach. It’s a great spot for swimming, picnicking, and launching a boat, with washroom facilities available.

Richard Thomas Memorial Park
134 Pickerel & Jack Lake Road (before the bridge), Armour
A scenic location along the Magnetawan River, this park is a great place to enjoy a picnic, take a swim, and relax by the water.

Halcyon Shore Beach
Across from 2159 Pickerel and Jack Lake Road, Armour
A newer beach in Armour Township, Halcyon Shore offers a peaceful setting for a summer picnic and a relaxing day by the water.

McMurrich/Monteith Township

Doe Lake Beach (Big Doe)
Birch Court, Sprucedale
A public beach featuring swimming, a playground, and a picnic area, making it a great stop for families.

Bear Lake Beach
Beach Street, Sprucedale
A quiet and secluded beach that’s perfect for cooling off on a warm summer day.

Ryerson Township

Bartlett (Rainy) Lake
North end of Rainy Lake Road, Ryerson

This waterfront park offers public washrooms, a change room, and picnic tables, making it a convenient spot for a day by the lake.

Doe Lake Boat Launch
South end of James Camp Road, Ryerson
A quiet waterfront location where visitors can wade, enjoy a snack, and let the kids swim.

Sundridge

Lion’s Park
91 Ontario Street, Sundridge
Located on the shores of Lake Bernard, Lion’s Park offers something for everyone, including a sandy beach, splash pad, playground, boat launch, and picnic area.

South River

Eagle Lake Estates Park
298 Angus Point Road, South River
A public beach and boat launch located on the beautiful shores of Eagle Lake.

Magnetawan

Magnetawan Centennial Park
Dam Trail, Magnetawan
A great waterfront destination featuring a beach, playground, gazebo, picnic tables, and outdoor exercise equipment.

Ahmic Beach
Off Highway 124 on Ahmic Street, Magnetawan
This scenic waterfront area includes a beach and docks, offering a beautiful place to spend a summer day.

Strong Township

Checkerboard Beach
Corner of Lakeshore Drive and Pevensey Road on Sunny Beach Road, Strong
A great place for swimming, windsurfing, or relaxing by the water. This location includes a small sandy beach and washroom facilities.

Union Street Beach
End of Union Street, off Main Street and Forest Lake Road, Strong
A smaller sandy beach with washroom facilities, perfect for cooling off on hot summer days.

South Lake Bernard Beach
Across from Lake Bernard Trailer Park on South Lake Bernard Road, Strong
A family-friendly sandy beach with boat access, washrooms, and playground equipment.

Sunnyridge Beach
Corner of Albert and High Rock Drive, on Sunny Ridge Road, Strong
A quiet sandy beach with washroom facilities, ideal for a relaxing summer outing.

Powassan

South River Reservoir (The Hydro Pond)
Purdon, Powassan
A great place for a family beach day with a picnic shelter, change rooms, washroom facilities, and plenty of green space to relax.

Kearney

Kearney Public Beach
Lakeview Street, Kearney
Located on the sandy shores of Hassard Lake, this beach is a wonderful place to spend a summer afternoon. Pack a picnic and enjoy the northern Ontario scenery.
